Brazilian Cheese Bread Recipe: A Family Favorite with Brazilian Roots

Written by  · 3 min read

In every family, there are recipes that bring everyone together, creating a symphony of flavors and memories. For us, one of these recipes is the Brazilian Cheese Bread– a mouthwatering delight that not only pays homage to our Brazilian roots but also has become a kid-approved favorite. There are many different recipes of Brazilian Cheese Bread. You may find them at the grocery store at the frozen bread section, but usually they have added unnecessary ingredients and highly inflammatory oils such as canola, sunflower and safflower oil. As a nutritionist, I wanted to find a healthier option for my family, and this recipe is so easy and fast that even my 8 year-old daughter has already learned to make it (proud mom moment!). Join me on a culinary journey as I share my take on this delicious recipe that has been passed down through generations.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup tapioca flour (I use Bob’s Red Mill)

  • 1 block of organic cream cheese (8oz)

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup grated cheese (I use the Kerrygold grass fed cheese block from Costco)

  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (190°C).

  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl. I usually do it in the following order: tapioca flour, egg yolk, cream cheese, salt and cheese.

  • The dough will be sticky, it will take a while to combine all ingredients, don’t worry! It’s all good ;)

  • Once all ingredients are well combined, make little balls (you can use a dessert spoon to scoop out the right amount of dough, or just use your fingers. This recipe makes about 30 little balls.

  • Put the balls on a baking sheet, leaving some space between them, enough to prevent them from sticking to one another (they will grow a little).

  • Place the baking sheet in the oven to bake at 350°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes (could be ready earlier, depending on your oven, start checking for a golden color around the 15 minute mark).

  • Once ready, remove them from the oven and place on a serving tray. I’m warning you if you have little kids: they won’t last long!
